Wigan v Bolton - Early Latics Team News

Wigan Athletic defender Steve Gohouri appears to be fighting a losing battle in his race to be fit for this weekends derby clash against Bolton Wanderers at the DW Stadium.

The Ivory Coast international defender has a tear in his calf muscle that forced him out of last Saturdays game at Newcastle and Latics boss Roberto Martinez says: 'We'll asses Steve Gohouri over the next day or two but maybe the game will come a little too early for him after missing the Newcastle game with a slight tear in his calf."

Meanwhile club skipper Gary Caldwell is nearing a recall following his heroics for Scotland in their recent international against the Czech Republic and his 90 minutes for the reserves in midweek, but like Gohouri, Bolton could be a game too soon.

Martinez says: 'Gary Caldwell continues to develop and played 90 minutes for the reserve team earlier in the week which is another positive sign but again this game will probably come too soon for him."

With Ali Al-Habsi ineligible to play against his parent club Chris Kirkland is all set for his first start since the 6-0 home defeat to Chelsea back in August, Martinez though has no reservations whatsoever about pitching the big shotstopper back in the nets, the boss says on Kirkie: 'This is obviously a unique opportunity for Chris Kirkland to enjoy his football after the hard-work he has shown in training.

'He has been such an important influence in the dressing room this season even though he hasn't been on the pitch."
