Chris Kirkland Looking To Be Off?

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland looks like he is ready to quit the club if his demands to be re-instated into the starting eleven aren`t met.

Kirkland, who has suffered with injuries ever since the Latics signed the big shot stopper from Liverpool in 2006, has been in and out of the team over the past four years due to a catalogue of problems ranging from back spasms to broken fingers.

What has remained constant during that time has been the fact that the Latics have stood by the 29 year old and kept him has number one and only looked to bring in cover for when he is sidelined.

This season however that cover, Ali Al-Habsi, who is on a season long loan from Bolton, has come in and performed superbly and put pressure on Kirkland for the starting position.

Kirkland had the keepers jersey for the opening two games of the season and he ended up conceding 10 goals in those two games and had a bit of a mare, it was rumoured that he was injured when he was left out of the next game, away at Hartlepool in the Carling Cup which ended in a 3-0 win for the Latics

Al-Habsi came in for that one and subsequently kept his place in the team for the next Premier League game away at Spurs which Latics also won keeping a clean sheet into the bargain.

With just one defeat in the eight games that Al-Habsi has played and just six goals conceded the pressure is on Kirkland who now sees is top spot at the club under threat.

Instead of knuckling down and battling for his place, after all Kirkie is a top quality keeper, he is making noises of being off at the first opportunity.

Kirkland told reporters: "If I am not playing too much between now and Christmas, I shall have to look at the situation.

"Now that I am fit, I want to play. It has been frustrating."

the actual quote is open to interpretation, but worbo is dead right, fight for your place. the guy thats come in has played well, so you don't deserve to walk back in. It also suggests the cover was brought in to cover for injury, which might explain why he was ***** early season. (carrying one possibly)

tipical wigan look after him while he's been injured they get a quality keeper in, cos he's keeping him out he spits his dummy out ! why does he not fight for his place back like the rest of the team.about time there was competition for him cos he takes it for granted.players like him make me sick if they cant get there own way they want away !!!!!!

Strange how people always want to believe the worst. This is a newspaper article. When I hear Chris say that himself (which will be a great surprise to me after the loyalty he's shown for so long), then and only then will I believe such negativity. Remember the hoo-hah about the Titus Bramble accusation and how ready some were to immediately condemn him? Now the whole thing's been dropped. Shame on people to immediately think the worst of people who up to now have shown much better judgement.
IfCK really has said this, then yes, that is not good, but until that is definitely shown to be the case, let's not be gullible and assume a newspaper story is true. Dear me.

May I humbly suggest that this might be a good time to reassess your statement. Newspapers often, certainly in regard to football stories, DO make things up!. I present the evidence, m'lud:

Chris Kirkland insists he is fully committed to Latics and is not hankering for a move away from the DW. The former England goalkeeper says he was ‘angry’ to read reports in the national press this week suggesting he was looking to quit because of a lack of first-team football.

While frustrated at the current situation, Kirkland is keen to stress to the club’s supporters that he is not about to take his ball home in protest. He said: “That’s not my style. I would never disrespect the club, the manager or the fans in that way – especially at a club where I’ve had the best spell of my career and where I’ve always been really happy.

“It makes me angry that what you say can be twisted into something completely different. All I said was that it has been frustrating for me to be on the bench, which is clear, and I’m sure no-one would expect me to say anything else. And if this situation continues, then both parties would have to think about the future. But that’s a long way off, and it’s certainly not a veiled threat to say I want to go.

“I’m a Wigan player, and am proud and happy to be one.”

Please give people the benefit of the doubt, especially if it's a newspaper story.
