Roberto Martinez - An Opportunity To Progress

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is looking for a victory tonight against his former club Swansea City and says that home advantage should help carry the Latics through.

Stood on the cusp of the quarter finals the Latics have a great opportunity to progress in a competition that they have a realistic chance of reaching the final of, it`s been done before under Paul Jewell and surely Martinez would not only love to emulate that feat but also go one better and get his hands on the trophy.

It may seem a little early to be dreaming about a Wembley success but with Chelsea, Manchester City, Spurs and Everton already out and Manchester United and Arsenal both renown for using the competition to blood their young and up and coming stars as well as a few fringe players there is a legitimate reason for Latics fans to start to feel optimistic.

Firstly, of course, Swansea need to be dealt with, they will be no pushovers but with home advantage surely this is a time for the fans to get behind the team and give the lads that extra bit of support that could just help push us to the next round.

Speaking about the chance to progress Martinez says: 'It's a unique opportunity for us'

'In these situations to be at home is a great advantage and now it is down to us to approach the game in the right manner and create the right atmosphere for the players to compete against a very talented Swansea side.

'We saw against Preston that when you're playing against a Championship side they really raise their game, and in a one-off situation like this it can make a big difference.

'Technically Swansea are a very talented group. They keep the ball well and will make it very hard for us.

'You don't get many chances to progress to the Quarter Finals of a cup competition so it's a great occasion for all involved.'
