Wigan Athletic travel down to London this weekend to face Fulham at Craven Cottage, so in the build up to the game I thought I`d pop along and grab a quick chat with Fulham fan and Vital Fulham editor, our old mate, Andrew Joyce, let`s see how it went:
worbo - Hi Andrew, I hope all is well, early days yet but are you disappointed with your league position, or is it what you expected?
Andrew - Two games ago, hanging onto our Premier League unbeaten record, everything was dandy. Now after two defeats (Spurs and WBA) we`re hanging over the precipice and it`s not what I expected. But it is still very early and a win, on Saturday, will see us shoot up the table.
worbo - New boss at the helm, Mark Hughes, how`s he doing, have the Fulham fans taken to him or are Woy`s shoes just too big to fill?
Andrew - It was always going to be a case of filling the boots of someone who became a legend at Craven Cottage but Mark, despite Martin Jol being the one lined up for the job, has done great. Arriving late he didn`t have too much time to dabble in the transfer market but he`s got us playing some decent stuff and his passion for the club shines through.
Given time we might even be asking Woy who?
worbo - I see Bobby Zamora is out injured at the moment, pity really because Zamora was finally fulfilling his potential, but I like the look of your new guy Moussa Dembele, has he settled into the Premier League?
Andrew - He was doing great but a dreadful tackle (ask Danny Murphy) up at Stoke put him out of action. The sad thing was Stoke had the game won and we were in injury time when some thug cart-wheeled Moussa through the air. He came back two games ago but is still feeling his way back, hopefully he`ll be ready for Saturday and star for us again.
worbo - Mentioning Danny Murphy, he made the headlines a couple of weeks back with his comments about tackles, Latics midfield man Jordi Gomez was the victim of a crazy challenge from Wolves player Karl Henry recently and I think reckless challenges are creeping back into the game, do you agree Andrew and was Murphy right to speak out?
Andrew - Most definitely he was right to speak out. There are crude teams out there and they know who they are. I was surprised that Danny was vilified, by the majority, for speaking the obvious. The tackle from behind appears to have been replaced by a snide scissor-style tackle that takes both legs from the side. Time for a clamp down methinks!
worbo - I`ve already mentioned Dembele and Zamora, two Fulham players that I admire, but I wouldn`t mind Brede Hangeland in the Latics team, he is a great defender and a leader with a real presence on the pitch, just the type of player every side needs.
If you could pick a Latics player to be in the Fulham team who would it be and why?
Andrew - James MaCarthy, definitely one for the future and one who could give us a little more drive in a central position.
worbo - The league is still pretty tight at the moment but I think both Latics and Fulham will be ok this season, I can see Wolves, Birmingham and Blackpool as the bottom three, whilst at the top Chelsea as champions with Man City, Arsenal and Man United grabbing the champions league spots, how do you see it Andrew?
Andrew - I have a suspicion, as much as it hurts me to say it, that you`re spot on with the top place predictions. As for the bottom three, I`d be surprised if Birmingham went down, I`ll add West Ham to the two others you`ve picked.
worbo - Prediction time Andrew, I think it will be a closely contested game and I am going for a 1-1 draw, how do you see it?
Andrew - We`ll get back to winning ways and take this 2-1.
worbo - Thanks for the chat Andrew, its good to talk, good luck for the rest of the season, after Saturday of course.
