John Benson Sadly Passes Away


Former Wigan Athletic manager and general manager John Benson has sadly passed away following a short illness report the Latics official website.

Benno only left the Latics back in the summer to join Sunderland as a scout having been connected to the Latics since 1995 when he joined as John Deehans assistant, taking over the managerial reigns himself in June 1999, guiding the Latics to the League 2 play-off final the following May only to lose to Gillingham at Wembley.

Benson who also managed Manchester City and Burnley had been general manager at the Latics since 2006, the 67 year old was responsible for helping to bring a host of players to the Latics including Graeme Jones, Andy Liddell, Hugo Rodallega, Maynor Figueroa and Amr Zaki

All at Vital Wigan send their deepest sympathies to Benno`s family, RIP.
