Mac The Knife - Surgery For McCarthy

Wigan Athletic midfield player James McCarthy has undergone surgery on his ankle following damage to his ligaments suffered as a consequence of a tackle from Bolton player Fabrice Muamba.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez says that the operation was carried out in order to aid the healing process and keep his ankle stable to alleviate any long term problems for the young Scot.

McCarthy will be missed in the Latics midfield whilst he is out of action and with the likelihood of him not returning until February it is important to ensure that when he does return he is as strong as ever.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez said: 'It [the operation] was to make sure the joint remains stable, which will allow his ankle to heal properly.

'The main thing was to make sure it didn't become a chronic problem for him in the future. Ankles are joints that it's easy to not look after properly as you can get through matches.

'But he's such a young man that, whatever happens in the next two or three months, we need to ensure he comes back stronger and better for the good of the rest of his career.'

Thanks for that info, Hope he heals well and has a great future, mainly at Latics. One gripe. Why do I find this out here and not on the Latics offical site, I do think they badly let us down when it comes to giving out information.
