Letter From The Chairman

Wigan Athletic chairman David Whelan has sent the following letter out to all Latics supporters.

Dear Supporter

I would first like to say a big thank you to all the supporters who have purchased season tickets for the new season. Last year was a fantastic season in the history of this club and I`m delighted so many people have committed themselves to next season already.

As has been reported previously this summer, we have made a record amount of bids for new players, but until now, we have not had anything to announce. Paul Jewell has said he wants to strengthen the squad and I will always back his judgment every time. He is in Germany at the moment and looking at players every day, along with all his staff.

We are in the market for the best players and we are competing with many other Premiership clubs in that respect. The search for new talent goes on and I am totally confident we will bring in the players Paul has targeted.

Wigan Athletic was one of the success stories of last season and I firmly intend for the club to progress this season and establish itself in the Premiership.

As regards players leaving the club, or being offered new contracts, we will only comment when there is something to announce. Naturally, we want to keep all our best players here but I see it as a sign of how successful our team has become when other Premiership clubs are showing an interest in our players.

We always conduct our business according to the rules. At no time have we or will we ever approach a player illegally. When we make bids for players it is always be via the official channels.

Kind regards

Dave Whelan
