'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Latics Speyk to West Brom

Wigan Athletic entertain West Brom at the DW Stadium this weekend so I thought I`d do a little entertaining of my own and grab a few words with Vital WBA editor and massive West Brom fan, Steven Wilton.

worbo - Welcome Steven, hope all is well, good start to the season for the Baggies, just what you expected?

Steven - I'm well thanks and looking forward to the game. It's a bit of a surprise to have got so many points this season particularly with the teams we have had to play. We have played eight of the top ten with the best result being the 3-2 win at Arsenal.

worbo - Cant go any further without speaking about Paul Scharner, absolute legend up here, for lots of different reasons, mad as a hatter, former player of the season and massive fans favourite, he was loved. How`s he settled in at West Brom and have the fans taken to him?

Steven - We haven't seen the best of Scharner yet and to be honest there are a few fans who don't think he is worth his place in the side. However, I think he is a steadying influence that allows Mulumbu and Morrison to play in midfield.

worbo - Just like us you have a Roberto in charge, I`ll be honest I haven`t seen West Brom play too much over the past year since Di Matteo was appointed, has he made a big difference to how Mowbray had you playing or has he just tweaked it a little?

Steven - Di Matteo has definitely made a difference to the team, they play with real purpose now, are more solid and everybody in the squad knows their job. Mowbray's 'philosophy' made us a soft touch in the Premier League.

worbo - Peter Odemwingie, is he as good as he seems, obviously I haven`t had the privilege of seeing him live so it`s hard to make any proper judgement off a few minutes on Match of the Day but he does look the real deal.

Steven - Peter has plenty of pace and is a real handful for defences. He never stops running but Wednesday night's game was his first start in seven weeks for us so it is too early to say whether he is the real deal.

worbo - We know all about Paul Scharner and you`ve just told us about Peter Odemwingie, who else should we look out for and who is the main man in the West Brom team?

Steven - There are so many good players in the Albion team but the ones that really stand out are Youssouf Mulumbu and Christ Brunt. Mulumbu is a dynamic central midfielder who pops up everywhere and he has been our man of the match in practically every game this season. Brunt has really matured this last couple of years and he is the creative influence in the side. He has the vision and ability to open up any defence as well as having a really powerful left foot.

worbo - Who do you see in the top four and bottom three come the end of the season Steven?

Steven - It is difficult to see a top four that won't consist of Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Man City as for the bottom three I think it will be West Ham, Wolves and Blackpool.

worbo - Right prediction time, I think it will be a tight game, but with us being at home we`ll just shade it 2-1, I can see Scharner scoring, don`t know who for though.

Steven - I can't see us coming away with a clean sheet but we have so much ability going forward that I think we will score so I will go for a 2-1 to the Baggies. Whatever the score let's hope it's an entertaining game played fairly and not influenced by a poor referee.

worbo - Thanks for the chat Steven, I`m looking forward to an entertaining game and seeing Herr Scharner once more.
