Daniel de Ridder Set To Leave Wigan

Wigan Athletic Dutch midfield player Daniel de Ridder is undergoing a trial period with France Ligue 1 side Valenciennes in an attempt to get some first team football.

The former Ajax, Celta Vigo and Birmingham man has endured a torrid time at the Latics, since joining in the summer of 2008 de Ridder has made just 18 appearances and last season went out on loan to Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv.

The Netherland under 21 international will be out of contract at the DW Stadium and it looks like he may well be allowed to leave on a free transfer if he can get himself fixed up during the next window

Confirming de Ridder`s trial with his club Valenciennes chairman Francis Decourriere told French sports magazine L'Equipe: "He (de Ridder) is on trial for at least one week"

"He is a real winger and since the departures of Fahid Ben Khalfallah to Bordeaux and Johan Audel to Stuttgart, that is what we miss the most.

"The injury to Gaetan Bong has also hurt us and left us a little short."

Too lightweight for the Premier League

It is just disappointing that he didn't live up to potential. He did show flickers here and there but as you say worbo, he wasn't really prem league material. Better suited to a lower league. Maybe in time he will become better as he is still relatively young.

Good luck to the guy. I'm sure had we not have had valencia, N'zogbia, etc. he would had a chance to show himself. All the best
