James McCarthy On The Road to Recovery


Wigan Athletic youngster James McCarthy is progressing along the road to recovery following surgery to the ankle that he damaged in the clash with Bolton at the DW Stadium back in October.

McCarthy was tackled clumsily from behind by Wanderers midfield man Fabrice Muamba and the young Scot suffered ankle ligament damage as a result, with the initial prognosis of late January to early February as the earliest that McCarthy will be back in action, it`s the hard slog of gym work for the 19 year old for the next few weeks.

Speaking to Latics Player McCarthy says that the surgery went fine, but it`s frustrating and he is missing being part of the action.

McCarthy said: "The doc`s happy with it (surgery) and it was successful, but it`s a long road now, hopefully I can get back on my feet as soon as."

"I`ve started working in the gym and everyday it starts picking up"

"I have to be patient, it`s a long season and hopefully I can be back just after New Year, it is frustrating but I have to keep working in the gym so that I can get back as soon as I can"

"It`s my first serious injury and it`s devastating to be honest, just watching from the stands not being able to take part in the games, even coming into training and not training with the boys, you just miss everything"
