Meeting The 'Top Brass' - Wigan Athletic
I was invited along to Wigan Athletic yesterday for an informal get together with some of the top brass of the club and the editors of the other Latics fans sites.
The gathering took place in the Directors Lounge at the DW Stadium and lasted from 5:30 until 8pm, from the club there were: Jonathan Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, Ed Jones, Media Manager, Antony Clark, Head of Sales and Neil Ryan, Head of Marketing.
The eds that could make the meeting were myself from Vital, Bernard Ramsdale, Ye Olde Tree and Crown, Paul Farrington, wiganer.net, Jason Taylor, Wigan Athletic Supporters Club, John Heeley, Cockney Latic and Martin Tarbuck, Mudhuts.
Prior to the meeting I was told it would be an open agenda and so it proved, the discussions, we were told could be centred around whatever we (the eds) brought up and that they would be open and honest with us.
All manner of topics were discussed, attendances being the first item and how to improve them, the work of the club in the community, large screen for the ground (which wont be happening), competitions, fans forum with the manager, the new kit, a retro kit and lots more.
For a break down of what was discussed see the `Top Brass` report thread on our forum or take a look at what Bernard from Ye Olde Tree and Crown thought about it, he covered most of the discussions.
What I gained from the evening, apart from a very nice chicken curry, was just how open and attentive our club is. The powers that be behind the scenes have the club at heart, they are willing to consider all ways of improving the fan experience, not just match day experience but the full package of being a Wigan Athletic supporter.
They want the club to grow, but they also want the club to grow in the right way, to be inclusive of the fans and try where possible to meet the fans wishes.
I feel that the club is in good hands both on and off the pitch, striving to take it in the right direction, as supporters we have a role to play in this also, getting behind the team on match days but also to promote the club away from the ground encouraging others to get down to games and boost the attendances.
The club is now definitely a listening club and this is another way to help, get in touch via the official website with ideas or, alternatively post your thoughts on the fans sites forums, leaving ideas for the eds/reps to take to subsequent meetings, this is easy enough to do.
It`s a great time to be a Latics fan and here at Vital as always we will be supporting the club both on and off the pitch.
