What The Boss Says - Man U v Latics

Wigan Athletic take the short trip down the East Lancashire Road to Old Trafford this Saturday to face Manchester United, prior to the game the boss has been speaking to the press, about the game and unsurprisingly about Wayne Rooney, who has returned to the UK fit and fresh from a training camp in the US.

Lets see what he said:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez:

"When we play against United it must not be about them, it`s about ourselves.

"We need to find a way to work hard, and obviously enjoy the occasion, but it`s all about what we can produce.

"If you look at our record against United we`ve never even got a point, but my biggest concern is for us to be prepared mentally and to be ready to play against a fantastic team."

"Whether Rooney plays or not doesn`t matter.

"Our problems in the past have been bigger than just one player.

"We`ve not had that belief and that`s probably the main barrier we`ll have to overcome tomorrow. In my eyes all our focus needs to go into being ourselves, and to be able to go to Old Trafford and compete for 95 minutes.

"They`ll be confident, but if we can break down that mental barrier I won`t be concerned with anything else.

"Away from home we have been strong, solid and we`ve defended well.

"Take the Spurs game, we beat that mental fear that day. We were positive and it showed me a lot about the character of the squad.

"You couldn`t have imagined a harder challenge after what had happened at White Hart Lane last season, but we got through it and we need to find that same approach and mentality tomorrow.

"In a way it is going to be a mental war, but we have got strong characters in the squad and that can help us go and try and get a result."
