Early Team News - Manchester Utd v Wigan Athletic

Early team news from the Manchester United v Wigan Athletic clash:

The Latics are set to be without long term casualty James McCarthy who will be sidelined until February, Gary Caldwell is also set to be missing until after Christmas with a thigh muscle tear that he picked up last Saturday, Emmerson Boyce hasn`t recovered from his hamstring pull and also misses out.

Loanee Tom Cleverley is ineligible for the fixture due to the fact that his parent club is Manchester United and the young midfielder will be sorely missed by the Latics.

Paraguay international defender Antolin Alcaraz returned from Hong Kong on Thursday and will be assessed today on his fitness levels.

Latics from:

Al Habsi, Stam, Steven Caldwell, Alcaraz, Gohouri, Thomas, Diame, N'Zogbia, Gomez, Moses, Rodallega, Di Santo, Kirkland, Figueroa, Watson, Boselli, McArthur

Manchester United big news is the return of Wyane Rooney who will more than likely get a place on the bench. Paul Scholes is also available after serving a one match ban, whilst both Ryan Giggs and Rafeal Da Silva are fit to return after injury.

Manchester United from:

Van Der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Park, Smalling, Berbatov, Obertan, Hernandez, Macheda, Amos, Fabio, O'Shea, Gibson, Scholes, Giggs, Rafeal, Rooney.

On Wyane Rooney United boss Alex Ferguson says: 'I don't think he'll start tomorrow'

'Maybe he will reach the bench. But he will certainly play on Wednesday against Rangers.'
