What The Boss Say's - West Ham v Latics

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has spoken about tomorrows clash at bottom of the table West Ham and says that the players are desperate to get back on the pitch after last Saturdays defeat to Manchester United.

The last time the Latics travelled to Upton Park at the back end of last season, West Ham were in a similar position and desperate for the points, so from that perspective Martinez says that they know what to expect.

Speaking to the official web site Martinez said: 'Firstly the players have flushed the memories of Old Trafford out of their systems and are ready for the trip to West Ham. They are desperate to get back on the pitch and compete face to face against a side who'll also be looking to take three points.

'As a football club we gave a very good account of ourselves last weekend and now is the time to learn from those experiences and make sure we get the points on Saturday.

'It wasn't long ago when we last visited West Ham who were in a similar position then to what are now.

'So we know what kind of atmosphere to expect but we also know that there position and results this season do not reflect the quality they have in their team.

'On more than one occasion this season they've been in control of a game and in the lead but ended up on the losing side and we know they're a stronger side than the league table suggests.

'Obviously the pressure on you when you're in that position is a lot greater than if you're in a mid-table position, but we all know what to expect at Upton Park on Saturday and we'll need to be ready mentally as well as physically for a very demanding game.

'Our performances lately have been strong and against West Brom we earned three very good points. The Old Trafford experience allows us to keep growing and taking on positive elements to our game and now we're faced with a game which is like a cup-final situation within the league.

'West Ham are going to be ready for the test too. They're at home and now full well the importance of this game, one they'll feel they have a chance of winning.

'We're in the same situation and have to prepare ourselves to play the game and not the occasion, and be ourselves in what will be a testing environment.'
