Al-Habsi Decision To Be Made At Seasons End
Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez says let`s wait until the end of the season before deciding on the long term future of on loan goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.
The Oman international has been in sparkling form since forcing his way into the side and one save in the defeat to West Ham underlined his quality when he somehow managed to claw away a point blank effort from Hammers striker Piquionne
With Chris Kirkland out on loan at Leicester and speculation mounting that once January arrives that move will become permanent, it is obvious that Latics are in need of signing a keeper on a permanent contract.
With a fee agreed in the loan deal terms with Bolton Wanderers there may be no pressure to force the transfer for Al-Habsi through but with him catching the eye like he is there may well be more than just the Latics showing an interest once the summer arrives.
Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez said: 'You have seen the way Ali has performed and has settled in at the club, it seems he belongs here'
'But now is not the time to look at that situation. The time for that will be at the end of the season.
'I am not worried that he is playing 'too well', and is alerting other clubs. I'd be worried if I had brought him in and he had played badly.
'We want players to come to Wigan to progress as players and enjoy their football and Ali has done that.
'We have got him til the end of the season, and then we will sit down with Ali and see what he wants to do and what we can do about it.'
