Latics 2-2 Stoke, Game of the Weekend

Wigan Athletic 2-2 Stoke City certainly ticked all the boxes as far as Sky Sports are concerned with the game being selected as the game of the weekend, Sky say:

Game of the Weekend

Wigan 2 Stoke 2
An entertaining affair helped to warm a cold DW Stadium on Saturday as Wigan and Stoke both played their parts in a keenly-contested encounter. Four goals in the first half provided plenty to cheer, even if there were doubts about the quality of the goals, and the tempo remained in the second half.

Ben Watson was named in the team of the week and with stats showing that the Latics midfield man made over 80 passes and covered almost every blade of grass on the DW Stadium pitch, gave excellent delivery from set pieces and supported both the attack and defence throughout the 90 minutes, you have to say it is well deserved.

Latics keeper Ali Al-Habsi was given the save of the weekend award with Sky Sports saying:

Save of the weekend

Ali Al Habsi
With Wigan having twice come from behind to equalise at home to Stoke City, the home side were indebted to Al Habsi for staying level in the second half when the on-loan goalkeeper produced an excellent one-handed reaction save to keep out Kenwyne Jones' downward header from six yards out.

Unfortunately it wasn`t all flattery with Hendry Thomas being awarded miss of the weekend for what can only be described as, 'the miss of the weekend!` Sky Sports say:

Miss of the Weekend

Hendry Thomas
The Wigan midfielder had a golden chance to draw his team level against Stoke on 38 minutes following good work by Charles N'Zogbia. Thomas was picked out unmarked inside the six-yard box but, rather than side-foot into an empty net, he somehow skewed his shot wide. Fortunately, Tom Cleverley did equalise for Wigan two minutes later to spare Thomas' blushes.
