Martinez Looks at Pro's and Con's of Winter Break

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez appears to be a little undecided on whether a winter break would be beneficial to the Premier League or not.

Martinez says that having a break can be a great positive; it gives players a chance to refresh their minds and re-focus, from a fans point of view, the Latics boss says it helps cut out their frustrations when games are postponed like last Saturday when the Latics were due to face Villa.

Unfortunately though it isn`t always easy to predict the weather and sometimes the cold snap can miss December and be as late as January or February, on top of that Martinez says that the Boxing Day fixtures are fantastic for supporters.

Speaking to Latics Player Martinez said: "I always felt that a winter break can be really positive"

"But some leagues around Europe have their winter breaks around Christmas time and the bad weather hits in January or February, it can be impossible to predict"

"In football terms everyone enjoys the Boxing Day fixtures"

"But the weather now is starting to get more extreme and we have to be prepared for that if we are to carry on without the break"

"You can understand both angles, everyone enjoys the special feeling you get with the Christmas fixtures and the other one, sometimes a little break refreshes everyone`s minds"

"A break also allows you to avoid frustrations, if you look at Saturday a lot of people had plans to come and watch the Aston Villa game and they get shattered at the last second"

"If you allow a little break you can plan around it and fans don`t get as frustrated as you do when a game gets called off"
