Martinez Says Youth is the Future

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been speaking about the success the young players, youth and young pro`s, have been enjoying this season and says it is an area of the club that is vital for the future of the Latics.

The youth team are unbeaten this season and are through to the 4th round of the FA Youth cup, they travel to Watford next month for their next tie, whilst the reserves sit proudly at the top of the Barclay`s Premier League North reserve league.

Both Graham Barrow and Dave Watson have done great jobs this campaign with their respective sides and they are gelling their teams to play football in the Wigan Athletic mould, and hopefully on the way to producing some first teamers of the future.

Martinez paid special tribute to the work that Barrow has put in with the reserves saying that "Being top of the league shows just what a fantastic job Graham Barrow and his staff have done"

Speaking about the clubs young players and the set up Roberto Martinez spoke to Latics Player and said: "The development of players is very important and we need to help that talent be as good as they can be"

"That means you`ve got to put a lot of effort and a lot of time in, the next step is seeing if we can make the step up in them being important players in the first team"

"There are a couple of young players that are showing the right standards on a daily basis and they could soon be pushing for a place in the first team"

"That`s very important for the future, now we are starting to create a structure that allows the youngsters to get a very good learning curve"

"It`s not just the youth but also the young pro`s, allowing them to develop in many areas, lifestyle, technically, tactically and that is very important and something that I believe will be a real strength for Wigan Athletic for the future"

"It`s going to be a real asset in our football club"

this is the most financially benefitial way a football club can be run, and if wigan stay in the premierleague in the next 2 seasons, we will really start to do wonders with this system
