Latics Fail in Loan Bid For Dutch Star

Wigan Athletic look to have failed in a bid to bring Eljero Elia on loan to the DW Stadium from German club Hamburg.

The Dutch international is rated very highly and it is thought that Latics boss Roberto Martinez tested the water so to speak in trying to bring the 23 year old to the Premier League

It is believed that Hamburg will only do business on a permanent basis and are said to be looking at a fee of around £13million, a spokesman for the Bundesliga club said: 'There was a loan offer but this was not possible. Other than that, there's been no official contact with anyone"
