Callum McManaman Still Buzzing

Wigan Athletic FA Cup hero and Vital Latics man of the match from Saturdays 3-2 win over Hull in the 3rd round, Callum McManaman, is still pinching himself over his dream inclusion in the starting line up last weekend.

The bubbly scouser, speaking to the Latics Official site, said that he still cant remember the goal and that it hasn`t all sunk in yet. McManaman was full of praise for the older lads in the team who helped him settle before the game and also for the boss Roberto Martinez, saying that because he isn`t afraid to give the youth a chance it gives them hope.

Callum McManaman said: 'I was made up to start, but I don't even remember the goal, it's all just a blur and hasn't even sunk in yet.'

'I usually play on the wing, but I was happy to play anywhere to get my first start in such a big game.'

'The first I knew about it was when the gaffer read the team out at 1.30, I was made up to be in the starting line up - especially in such a big competition as the FA Cup.'

'You can see the gaffer likes to give the younger lads a run out, so it does give you hope.

'We have all done well this season in the reserves, so it's good that we were given the chance today.'

'The older and more experienced lads were great; they helped me and gave me advice before the game.

'That gave me a lot more confidence, that's just what you need when it's your first match.'

'I was thankful for the chance the gaffer gave me today. I hope this is just the start and I can kick on.'

Nice one Macca, hopefully we`ll see a lot more of you from now on.

He a fresh of breath Air after watching our first team struggle to get forward and chase down every ball. Keep it up lad. If it were my choice, I'd stick you on against Fulham. He's living proof we have a player that's not afraid to have a go when he gets a chance.

i dont think its a coincidence that since RM took charge our reserves/youth teams are soaring, our younger players are getting first team action and becoming good players (mcarthy, mcarthur, moses, callum). Earlier this year RM was talking about the Arsenal way of making and producing your own players for the future instead of always buying for the present, and how he wanted to make wigan function more in this way. Now i think we're beginning to see this happen
