'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Confirms Boselli Hold Up

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that the proposed Mauro Boselli loan move to Genoa is in the balance due to the striker having a slight tear in his hamstring.

Martinez said: 'We are trying to finalise that deal. At the moment it is not 100% because Mauro has still got a little tear in his hamstring, and that is the reason why he has not been involved in the last two games, but over the next few hours we will find out what is the final destination for him.'

Even if the Genoa deal falls through it would appear that Boselli is still set to leave until the end of the season at least with another two clubs also in the hunt, Martinez continued: 'We are trying to look at the best option - there are three options that we have for him and we are going to decide the one that is best for the football club, and ultimately, for the player."

'At the moment I feel that for Mauro to play five months in Italy or Spain, it will be what he needs, just to make that jump from South America into the Premier League. Then we will get the real Mauro Boselli that is going to be a massive asset for our football club."

The Latics boss still believes that there is a future for the Argentine at the Latics though and says that Boselli just needs to find a little football happiness and get some games under his belt.

Martinez concluded: "We need to have Mauro at his best, the Mauro Boselli that we signed, the goalscorer.

'He has got a magnificent reputation in world football and at the moment he needs to find a little bit of football happiness and to play games, to allow him to be himself."
