Latics Returning Stars to Inspire Victories

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is relieved that his injured stars are close to returning to action, Franco Di Santo made the subs bench last weekend, James McCarthy is possibly just one game away and Victor Moses is well on the road to fitness.

For a club the size of Latics to have players of the calibre of the three youngsters unavailable for the length of time that they have been out is a massive blow, but the squad as rallied together, even though they are in the bottom three there has just been one defeat in the last eight games.

McCarthy in particular has been sorely missed, ironically he has been out the longest, his drive, enthusiasm and above all, his quality in the middle of the park can be pointed to as a significant reason why we have failed to convert draws to victories and aren`t sitting further up the table.

In the eight games before McCarthy`s injury the Latics lost just the once, but of the other seven games they won four, that winning formula is what Roberto Martinez is hoping the returning players can bring back to the side.

Speaking to the clubs official web site Martinez says: 'We have a few players coming back from injury over the next few weeks which is great news for the club.

'Now we will all be together and hopefully start picking up more victories so that we can have a strong finish to the season.'

McCarthy has been missed massively and his return will give the side a moral boost as well as a physical one

So, the return of Victor, James and Franco is going to get us out of trouble. I think someone somewhere has got Victor mixed up with the more famous Moses who parted the Red Sea. We have never looked anything but relegation candidates since the start of the season when all of the squad were fit, so I dont see how these three have suddenly become the saviour of the season. I see the CEO has said the only movement in the transfer window will be the signing of a striker to replace Boselli. That would indicate to me that any signing will not be going straight into the team. That being so, who does he expect to come? Roberts wont, neither will Fuller. Both of these would get goals given the chance. I wonder whether or not we made any effort to get Yakubu who would have done a job. I fear for the team this season more than any under Jewell or Bruce. Roberto has turned out to be a very big error of judgement by Mr Whelan, one he will live to regret.
