Latics Out of Youth Cup

Watford 3-2 Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic youth team lost for the first time this season as they were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup in the 4th round by Watford at Vicarage Road this evening.

Dave Watsons young guns travelled south for the tie confident of progressing after their excellent start to the season, but unfortunately they came up against a very good Watford side who took the lead after 20 minutes when Adam Thompson headed the Hornets in front.

Gavin Massey doubled Watford`s lead in the 59th minute when he raced clear of the Latics defence to fire home.

Latics introduced Abubakar Sheego on 73 minutes and with his first touch the young striker reduced the deficit when he finished a low Steven Bootham cross with a sweet strike.

The goal gave Latics renewed hope but it was Watford who scored next, Smith scoring at close range on 81 minutes.

Sheego got his and Latics second goal deep into stoppage time to make it 3-2, but there was to be no more scoring and Watford go through to the 5th round to face Fulham
