Lawro Predicts - Arsenal v Latics

Former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark 'Lawro` Lawrenson has done his weekly round of predictions for the BBC and he is predicting that this Saturday`s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium will end in a home win for the Gunners, let`s see what his reasons are:

Arsenal v Wigan

I was at Elland Road on Wednesday night to watch Arsenal beat Leeds in the FA Cup and some of their football was irresistible.

Wigan are not the type of team that can put 10 men behind the ball to try to stop the Gunners, as some sides do, because they just don't play that way.

The reverse of this fixture only took place over Christmas, so it is quite a quick turnaround. Wigan pulled off a 2-2 draw at the DW Stadium in that game, equalising late on despite having only 10 men, and they had a real go at Arsene Wenger's side.

But that was a weakened Arsenal line-up because Wenger had rotated his squad and, in any case, going to the Emirates makes it an entirely different proposition for the Latics.

Prediction: 3-0

I was thinking that the Latics might struggle as well, but it`s obvious that Lawro has no idea how the Latics play and this winds me up, so in the face of him totally writing us off I will go for a very creditable 1-1 and keep my fingers, legs and eyes crossed that we can get something out of the game.

1-1, hopefully a win but I'd take the draw now

As an Arsenal fan Wigan have been a thorn in the side recently. 4 points taken off us in the last 2 encounters makes this game a must win for us. I doubt very much the result is as guarenteed as the BBC think. Wigan play with heart and that makes them unpredictable. It'll come down to which Arsenal show up. If its the Arsenal that played against Chelsea and West Ham then the scoreline could be embarrising for Wigan. I'll simply wait and see. Hope you guys stay up though. The Premiership doesn't need to lose more teams that actually go out and play football.

we have a decent record against the Gunners, but never won there. Would happily take our first point. If we get three I would worry about our next game against Villa.

It's not a case of if we get beat, it's a case of by how many. 4-0 to Arsenal is my prediction, although it could be double that if they score a couple early on.
