New Chimbonda Bid

West Ham manager Alan Pardew has had a bid of £4million for French international right-back Pascal Chimbonda rejected by Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell. This still falls short of the £6million valuation placed on Chimbonda by Dave Whelan and Paul Jewell when he handed in a transfer request following the last game of the season against Arsenal in May.

Chimbonda is still on duty with the French World Cup squad who play Portugal in the semi-finals tonight. He hasn`t played in the World Cup so far but made his international debut in one of the warm-up matches. If he plays any part in helping France win the World Cup then his valuation is likely to rise even further.

West Ham now look to be favourites to sign Chimbonda as there has been no news of further interest from Tottenham Hotspur since Martin Jol made a £3million bid some weeks ago. Spurs were the early front-runners in the race to sign Chimbonda.

Anything that begins with W for Chimbo sounds great to me. Spurs do not want him, it was just an opportunity to try and pick up a one hit wonder bargain.
