James McCarthy Voted Man of the Match v Rovers

James McCarthy Voted Man of the Match v Rovers

James McCarthy was voted the Vital Latics man of the match for his superb display in Saturdays win over Blackburn at the DW Stadium.

The young midfield man was sorely missed by the Latics for the 14 league games that he was out injured; on Saturday he showed just how valuable he is to the team, giving his all until he limped out of the action totally exhausted on 82 minutes but with two goals under his belt.

The 20 year old gave an exhilarating display of box to box football, his two goals were excellent, the first showing his awareness and ability, reacting first to Boyce`s parried shot, firing home from a tight angle, his second demonstrated his close control, quick feet and coolness has he made a mockery of Blackburn`s defence packed penalty area to score a stunning goal.

His game wasn`t just about his goals though, he harried and tackled all afternoon, his passing was crisp and accurate and he made surging runs with the ball, a great game from a great young talent. Well deserved man of the match.

For the record the voting was:

James McCarthy - 78%
Ali Al-Habsi - 10%
Antolin Alcaraz - 6%

Wigan 1-2 Bradford Match Report

Latics dropped to a deserved 1-2 defeat at the hands of Bradford, our first loss at home in the league since March. It was an off-day, defence looked shaky from the off and once Nick Powell went off injured, we never really threatened to score. We are back at the DW on Tuesday against Doncaster Rovers, an opportunity to get back on track.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from our last league game, with Michael Jacobs returning to the starting line-up.
