James McArthur Scores as Scotland Win

Wigan Athletic midfield man James McArthur scored for Scotland tonight as they beat Northern Ireland 3-0 in the Carling Nations Cup in Dublin.

McArthur was only added to the starting line-up at the 11th hour when Scott Brown reported a tight grown during the warm-up, but the Latics man certainly took the opportunity to impress National boss Craig Levein .

With the Scots one goal to the good thanks to Kenny Miller`s 19th minute opener, McArthur scored a delightful effort when on 32 minutes he clipped the ball over Northern Ireland`s keeper, Jonny Tuffey, from the edge of the area to grab his first international goal.

Latics centre back Steven Caldwell also played and he thumped a header against the crossbar from a Charlie Adam free kick.

Scotland had the game sewn up in the 2nd half when Kris Commons made it 3-0 with a sweet strike.

The teams lined-up as follows:

Northern Ireland: Tuffey, McArdle, Baird, McAuley, Craigan, McCourt, Evans, Davis, McCann, McGinn, Patterson.
Subs: Blayney, Hodson, Thompson, Healy, Boyce, Norwood.

Scotland: McGregor, Hutton, Steven Caldwell, Berra, Bardsley, Morrison, Adam, Commons, McArthur, Naismith, Miller.
Subs: Bell, Danny Wilson, Bannan, Mark Wilson, Conway, Hanley, Maguire, Snodgrass, Gary Caldwell.
