Clattenburg - Some Referees Do Take Action

Last weekend, whilst here at the Latics we were bemoaning the reluctance of referee Mark Clattenburg to send off Manchester United`s Wayne Rooney for his sly, from behind whack on James McCarthy, one referee in Argentina had no such qualms when he issued 36 (thirty-six) red cards in one game.

The ref, Damian Rubeno, dismissed all 22 players, plus reserves and coaches when he was officiating the derby game between Claypole and Victoriano Arenas following a mass brawl.

Claypole boss Sergio Micieli, accused the ref of being, erm confused, Micieli said: 'Most players were trying to separate people. The ref was confused.'

Whilst rival boss Domingo Sganga had a completely different take on matters when talking about his opponents, Sganga said: 'They wanted to kill me.'

Very interesting, of course closer to home and we had players involved in a mass brawl just down the road from Wigan in Macclesfield, in the Silkmens game with Wycombe there was an explosion of fisty-cuffs following a clumsy challenge when it looked more akin to Rugby Union than football, that brawl resulted in just 3 players receiving red cards

I wonder what Mark Clattenburg made of it all?

Wigan 1-2 Bradford Match Report

Latics dropped to a deserved 1-2 defeat at the hands of Bradford, our first loss at home in the league since March. It was an off-day, defence looked shaky from the off and once Nick Powell went off injured, we never really threatened to score. We are back at the DW on Tuesday against Doncaster Rovers, an opportunity to get back on track.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from our last league game, with Michael Jacobs returning to the starting line-up.
