Lawro Predicts - Latics v Birmingham

Former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark 'Lawro` Lawrenson has done his round of predictions for the BBC and he is predicting that Saturday`s Premier League clash between Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City at the DW Stadium will end in a goalless draw, let`s see what his reasons are:

Wigan v Birmingham

Another battle between two sides embroiled in the relegation scrap and I imagine Birmingham manager Alex McLeish will resort back to basics for this one, restoring the 4-5-1 formation that served them so well last term. At home they can afford to go for it a bit more but on the road they need to stay tight and pick up the odd point here or there.

The Carling Cup final hangover has to end soon and while a goalless draw isn't ideal for either team, as the away side you'll tend to see it as a point gained.

The thing about Wigan is they sell the club to potential signings by persuading them they'll turn them into better players. That's all well and good - it draws out some fine performances - but it also instils a bit of a mentality which sees players become very selfish. It must be difficult for Martinez to get any kind of team ethic and that, to me, seems like one of the reasons why they're bottom of the table.

Prediction: 0-0

This will definitely be a 2-0 home win for the Latics, why? Because it has to be, that`s why.
