Latics Ready For The Challenge

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has said that the team are prepared to give their lives for the cause with the fight to avoid relegation about to begin in earnest with the visit of Birmingham City to the DW Stadium tomorrow.

The Latics have nine games left, a possible 27 points, out of those 27 it is regarded that we will need a minimum of 12 to win the battle to beat the drop, a hard task but not impossible and if the run in can be started with a maximum haul tomorrow then that will give a great boost to squad.

It`s evident from the noises coming out of the club this week that there is a confidence that safety can be achieved, but it will be a hard fought battle with the players needing to give their all.

Giving a rousing rally cry Martinez says: 'We have got nine games - 27 points to play for'

'We are prepared to give our lives for the cause and as a football club we are ready to experience that challenge.

'We are in the worst position in the table but it can only get better. The way we see it, if we play with the bravery and the courage we have shown, we will have an opportunity to be successful again.

'It is not time to look back. We all know the reasons why we are in this situation.'
