Last Minute Goals Give You A Right Buzz

The buzz that a last minute winner gives you is almost indescribable, considering that winner is in a game that is at the back end of the season, a season when you are in deep trouble and the game is against one of your rivals in the battle to avoid the drop, then that euphoric feeling gives you the belief that maybe we can pull this off.

Maynor Figueroa`s late, late goal against Birmingham on Saturday almost raised the roof off the DW Stadium, the reward for the players hard graft had been achieved and a fully justified winner sent the Latics fans home to the tune of the 'Great Escape` blazing out of the grounds tannoy system.

Walking back over the Douggie Bridge after the game there was a great buzz amongst the fans, all agreed that the victory was fully deserved and that the Latics had both out fought and out played Birmingham, an impressive home debut by Conor Sammon, albeit a cameo 30 minutes, seemed to set the pulses racing about what might be achieved in the coming weeks.

The next game, Spurs at home, can`t come quickly enough, unfortunately we`ll have to wait a week and half due to the international break, by then the fans should be chomping at the bit to get back to the DW Stadium to give the lads their full support in what will be a difficult game but one that shouldn`t hold any fears.

The way the midfield operated last Saturday was fantastic to watch, interchanging throughout the game Moses, N`Zogbia and Cleverley had the Birmingham central three chasing shadows at times, Watsons passing was spot on and his ball for Emmerson Boyce to set up Latics opener was top class.

Of course Spurs will be a different proposition to Birmingham but keeping the same principles of hard work and possession, plus taking chances that get created and I am sure that the Latics will get the rewards that their play justifies and a climb out of the bottom three just might be on the cards.

Hopefully that euphoria from Figueroa`s winner will be round for a while longer

obviously...I got the same feeling from Arsenal for weeks.... then it meant safety, now it means hope. Nothing is achieved yet.
