Moses Causing A Stir In Africa

Wigan Athletic striker Victor Moses appears to be causing a bit of a stir ahead of the Nigeria v Ethiopia ACN game this weekend, news agencies across the globe and especially in Africa are going into meltdown with the news that Nigeria are about to field an ineligible player.

Moses was a late call-up for Sunday's 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier after Nigeria tweaked their squad, but due to the 20 year old holding dual nationality, Nigerian and British, and having represented England at youth levels the young striker needs to apply to FIFA for change of nationality clearance.

Moses is eligible to 'swap` sides because he hasn`t played for the England senior team but still needs FIFA clearance first, which hasn`t yet arrived, so the likelihood of him playing without clearance is nil considering that teams fielding ineligible players in official matches would forfeit the points and pay a minimum fine of 6,500 euros.

It is possible that Moses was only taken out to Africa to get a feel for the Nigeria international scene, he has been courted for quite a while by the Super Eagles and he seemed undecided about where his international future lay, Nigeria assistant boss Simon Kalika says that the youngster was on their 'stand-by` list and they only decided to invite him along at the last minute.

Kalika said: 'Moses was on our standby list and after we released two of our call-ups to the Olympic team who will also be in action this weekend, we decided to invite him'

To be honest it all looks like a storm in a tea cup.
