Whelan Says Latics Will Play Their Way To Safety

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan says that if the Latics continue playing their good football then the rewards will come and they will stay in the Premier League.

Following Saturdays win over relegation rivals Birmingham the gap at the bottom is now very tight and with just 3 points separating eight clubs it`s all to play for, Whelan reckons the Latics have never looked like a side likely to go down but they have got to accept what`s gone before and play their way out of trouble.

Speaking to the clubs official website Whelan said: "We`re a very young side, but we play good football and if we continue to play good football we`ll get our reward and stay in the Premier League"

"We`ve never looked like a relegation side, the ball`s not run for us at times, we`ve had some awful luck, but you`ve got to accept all that and carry on playing football"

"The boys are in really good spirits, we could have done without the break but you`ve just got to get on with it in a fortnights time"
