Where Are They Now - Magno Vieira

When Brazilian youngster Magno Vieira joined Wigan Athletic in 2003 he instantly became a cult figure amongst Latics supporters and he is still fondly remembered by many even though he never made the field as a first team player, just two appearances on the bench to his name.

Signed from Brazil legend Jairzinho`s soccer academy, great things were expected from the 18 year old, but unfortunately they never materialised, and as the Latics began their meteoric rise through the divisions Vieira was left behind, after two loan spells at Northampton and Carlisle the young striker left permanently in 2006 signing for Barnet.

After trying his luck at a few 'Southern` clubs Vieira is now back in the North West and setting the Fylde Coast alight with a string of goals for Blue Square Conference side Fleetwood Town.

Scoring on his debut in the season opener against Rushden and Diamonds the Brazilian has gone on to plunder 18 goals this season making him the 'Cod Army`s` leading goal scorer as they challenge for a play-off spot in the hope of bringing League football to Fleetwood.

In a recent game away at fellow play-off chasers Mansfield, Vieira, who wears the number 10 for Fleetwood Town, grabbed himself a hat-trick with a great performance to help his side to a 5-2 victory, with match ball in hand he said:"I was so glad to score because the boys played really well and totally deserved to win.

"We have been creating chances but not scoring and so it was good to take them, the main thing was to get the three points, which were massive because Mansfield will be pushing for the play-offs too."

Sitting just one point outside the pay-offs, if the Cod Army`s number 10 can keep his goal scoring prowess up for the rest of this campaign then Fleetwood Town and Magno Vieira could well be playing League 2 football next season.
