James McCarthy - A Wanted Man

Wigan Athletic centre midfield player James McCarthy is reportedly a wanted man with both Chelsea and Liverpool chasing the Republic of Ireland internationals signature.

McCarthy has been a sensation since he arrived at the Latics from Hamilton Academicals in 2009, it`s also no coincidence that following the 20 year olds 14 game absence due to injury this season that Wigan find themselves struggling at the foot of the table, since his return to the side performances and results have vastly improved.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, according to the Sunday People, is desperate to land McCarthy this summer and beat Chelsea to the signature of one of the Premier Leagues hottest prospects.

Chelsea registered their interest in January but were told nothing doing until summer at least, though it will be McCarthy who will make the final decision and, as long as the Latics retain their Premier League status, the word is that he would like at least one more 'developmental` season at the DW Stadium.

Think he would fit in very well at Liverpool, certainly when gerrard retires in a couple of years, although he seems like the kind of lad who would rather play football for a year rather than sit on the bench kicking his heels.
