Migrating Penguins Put Game in Doubt

The Wigan Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur game scheduled for this Saturday, April 2nd, is in danger of being called off due to an extraordinary occurrence.

Migrating penguins have flocked down in their thousands and taken rest in and around the DW Stadium as they make their way from the Arctic to the Antarctic for the summer months.

The birds aren`t normally spotted in the Northern Hemisphere, but for the past couple of years, due to global warming they have been heading up to the top of the planet for the winter months and then off back down South when March arrives.

Not being great flyers the penguins rest off in several places on their epic journey, this year they appear to have followed the M6 south and taken a break in Wigan causing mayhem around the Marsh Green, Newtown and Norley Hall areas and roosting in the DW Stadium.

The protected species cannot be simply shooed away and the RSPB have told the Latics that they have to let nature take its course and wait for the birds to move on of their own accord.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez said on the matter: "I am very proud of the penguins, they are in a great moment of their career and when you look at them you can see the intensity, they are very positive."

Assistant boss Graeme Jones said: "To be honest I thought when you said 'have yer seen the penguins` that you meant, as in biscuits to dunk in my tea like!

"Take the M6 to Birmingham then...."
