Antolin Alcaraz - Man of the Match v Spurs

Antolin Alcaraz - Man of the Match v Spurs

Wigan Athletic centre back Antolin Alcaraz has been voted the Latics man of the match for his performance in Saturdays goalless draw against Spurs at the DW Stadium by Vital Wigan members.

The Paraguay international was superb all afternoon and kept the Spurs front line of Jermaine Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Rafael Van der Vaart quiet, so much so that Peter Crouch replaced Defoe on 57 minutes, but the lanky England striker got no change out of Alcaraz either.

So an excellent performance from the vice-captain and well deserved man of the match award, for the record the voting was:

Antolin Alcaraz - 44%
James McCarthy - 16%
Emmerson Boyce - 9%

I thought ALcaraz was excellent on Staurday ,but still would have opted for Ben Watson

Watson for me too, did well intercepting and is really growing as a holding player who can distribute the ball from deeper back on the pitch.

Alcaraz was brilliant, but I thought McCarthy was outstanding especially defensively. Im going to do a little article on his performance that may have slipped under the radar.

I would have said watson if he didn't spurn every dead ball chance we get, so alcaraz gets my nod

Alcaraz played brilliant but hole the defence played brilliant. I think Boyce was the most outstanding player of the game... Moses did have a good game too

Latics v Nottingham Forest - Big Game Preview

You can dress it up as you like, but for the Latics this is a game that they just have to win, we start a run of fixtures that would surely have been earmarked as ones to gain maximum points from and get us up the Championship table.

Forest arrive at the DW Stadium just six points ahead of us in the standings, they have injury problems, particularly in defence, they are on a poor run of form having lost their last three games, conceding 10 goals along the way, this is a time when we simpl
