Latics Reserves Beat Everton To Top The Table

Wigan Athletic reserves produced yet another good performance last night as they beat Everton reserves 2-1 at the Stobart Stadium, home of Widnes RLFC, to go top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North after Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw at West Brom.

Callum McManaman put the Latics in front on 57 minutes poking home from close range, Everton took just three minutes to draw level, Conor McAleny cut in from the right flank, jinked past a couple of defenders and struck a low shot past Welsby to put Everton back on level terms.

The Latics though were in control of the game and it was no surprise that they regained the lead when captain Daniel Redman fired home a thunderous left footed effort from 20 yards on 67 minutes.

Graham Barrows young charges saw out the game with ease and now proudly sit at the top of the league.

Latics: Welsby; Langley, Golobart, Robinson, Mustoe; Chow, McArthur (Holt, 68), Dawson (Morris, 88), Redmond, McManaman; Rugg (Breeze, 74)

Subs: Williams, Lambert
