Paul Merson Says Latics Were Outstanding

Sky Soccer Saturday pundit Paul Merson was waxing lyrical yesterday when anchor man Jeff Stelling asked how the Blackpool v Wigan Athletic game had panned out.

Merson was very impressed with the way the Latics played and said he thought they were magnificent. Not one to usually heap praise on Roberto Martinez`s team, the former Arsenal and England striker said that he thought we were relegation certainties, now, it`s Europe!

Merson said: "They were absolutely outstanding"

"I haven`t seen anyone go there (Blackpool) and be so comfortable

"They thoroughly deserved it, they passed the ball wonderfully and when they didn`t have the ball they worked hard and they closed Charlie Adam down really well.

"I don`t want to predict but I thought these (Wigan) were a certainty to go down, now I`m looking at Europe!"
