'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hey, Hey Diame, Do You Like My Town?

Wigan Athletic midfield man Momo Diame scored his first goal of the season for the Latics on Saturday, the fans responded with their own little tongue in cheek ditty for the man who was famously misquoted in the national press comparing Wigan to Madrid.

A rendition of 'Hey, hey Diame, ooh, aah, do you like my town` brought a smile to a few faces at Bloomfield Road, but the broadest smile was on the face of the recently capped Senegal international, who, after an up and down season, is starting to find some excellent form in the Latics midfield.

Diame looks to be forming a great unit alongside Ben Watson and James McCarthy in the middle and with Watson prepared to sit it is giving Diame the freedom to get forward and support the Latics attacks.

Support the attack he did with great reward on Saturday, picking up a pass from Tom Cleverley just outside the Blackpool penalty box, Diame jinked onto his left foot and hit a low shot that cannoned off Blackpool defender Neal Eardley and nestled into the far corner of Matt Gilks goal. Cue song.

A delighted manager Roberto Martinez said that Diame has found his form at the right time and that gaining international recognition has also helped his game

Martinez said: 'Momo has had two tremendous seasons after making a big step-up by arriving at the Premier League from the Spanish second division'

'He's made that transition with ease and now, in his second season at the club, he's found his form at the right time.

'Playing with his national team has brought a new maturity to his game and again at the weekend he performed in an excellent manner.'
