Lawro Predicts - Sunderland v Latics

Former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark 'Lawro` Lawrenson has done his weekly round of predictions for the BBC and he is predicting that Saturday`s Premier League clash between Sunderland and Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light will end in a home win for Sunderland, let`s see what his reasons are:

Sunderland v Wigan

I thought Sunderland played some good stuff in their defeat at Birmingham last week and, at times, they looked the better team. So I don't think the Black Cats are as short of confidence as some people seem to think - maybe they just need a break.

They are up against a Wigan team who won very comfortably at Blackpool last time out, and can look like a team that should be a lot higher up the table, but I am backing Sunderland to turn their bad run of form around here.

Because of the Black Cats' run of defeats and slide down the table, there will be a real edge to this game at the Stadium of Light, and things might be a bit tense. But Sunderland should get through it. I don't think Steve Bruce's side will get relegated, and they should just edge out the Latics.

Prediction: 2-1

Is it me or do you get the feeling that this guy doesn`t like us? Anyway, he obviously hasn`t been watching either team in depth this past few weeks, just the goals on some outdated BBC programme, I`m going for a 2-0 Latics win, mainly due to the fact that we are a team that should be a lot higher up the table
