Sunderland manager and former Latics boss Stave Bruce spoke about the achievement of Wigan Athletic under the stewardship of Dave Whelan, as the sides prepare to meet at the Stadium of Light.
Bruce, who had two spells in charge of the Latics, says that what the club has achieved is unbelievable and that there should be a movie made about it, I wonder who would play Bruce, Gerard Depardieu maybe?
The under pressure Sunderland boss also says he speaks to the Latics owner occasionally and that he was someone that he really enjoyed working with.
Bruce said: "Wigan are a well-run club and it is quite unbelievable when you look at what they have achieved.
"It is quite scary compared to where they were 30 years ago. There should be a film made about it.
"It is ridiculous going from 1,500 people in the Conference to six years in the Premier League and reaching a League Cup final. It is unique.
"The owner (Dave Whelan) has to take a big amount of credit for that, without him and the money he has spent, they would not be where they are. It is his hometown club, he cares about it and they have done remarkably well.
"I still speak to Dave occasionally, I saw him a few weeks ago when I went to see Wigan play Tottenham.
"He is somebody for whom I really enjoyed working."
Great idea for the movie, but who would play who? Let us know right here![]()
