Callum McManaman Signs Contract Extension

Wigan Athletic youngster Callum McManaman has signed a two year contract extension which will keep him at the Latics until 2013.

McManaman joined the club as an apprentice back in 2007 and he has made great progress, making his first team debut in Steve Bruces last game in charge of the Latics against Portsmouth in May 2009, McManaman has developed under the watchful eye of current boss Roberto Martinez who is clearly pleased to tie the youngster down for a further two seasons.

Speaking to the clubs official website Martinez said: 'Callum has continued to progress this season and we are delighted he has now signed this new contract.

'Callum represents a real example for every youngster at our football club. He's just turned 20 and he's already played in the league and had a big impact in this season's FA cup campaign.

'Technically, he's a very gifted player with a natural raw talent and over the last 10 months he's developed immensely, tactically and physically, and we are all excited to enjoy the next his years of his football.

'Many other youngsters should be inspired by Callum's behaviour and now all we want is for him to enjoy his football and help the first team squad on a daily basis.'

McManaman himself is thrilled to be staying put and he said on his new deal: "I'm made up, it's a great feeling, to have it all done and dusted feels good and now I want to kick on from here.

"It feels like a new start, as though I've gone onto another level and I'm looking forward to taking things on from here."

"The Gaffer has been a massive influence on me since he arrived. He works very closely with the young players at the club and is always looking to try and develop the talent we have.

"I'll continue working hard and hopefully before the end of the season I'll be able to play a part in the team's bid for survival."
