Vital Wigan Player Of The Season Winner - Video

Vital Wigan Player Of The Season Winner - Video

Vital Latics, Wigan Athletic Player of the Season for 2010/11 is Ali Al-Habsi.

The Oman international won the Alf Craig Trophy with a landslide of votes, over 95% of the votes cast went to Ali, making him the clearest winner that we have had since we started to run the competition at Vital.

I popped along to the Latics training ground at Christopher Park with Vital members Jo Bradley (wigginer) and Dave Jones (Taff57) to present the trophy to Ali and grab a few words, Dave, who runs Anchor Video, brought his equipment along and we were kindly given permission to record an interview with Ali.

Speaking exclusively to Vital Wigan Ali said: "This is fantastic to get something like this from the fans, thanks to everyone who voted for me, it is a fantastic feeling to come on a season loan and get this award, I'm so happy"

"Since I have come to this football club I have really enjoyed myself, I really appreciate the fans and how they treat me for every game.

"I hope that this weekend I can give something back to the fans"

I asked Ali about the two massive games coming up, the two 'cup finals` Ali continued: "Cup finals are always games that you have to win and we have to start with West Ham"

"We have a great chance now but we need that stadium to be full, the fans on the day behind us and we'll do our job"

I asked Ali did he have any special moments from the season, he said: "I think my best moment might be the last game against Aston Villa, that save against Darren Bent, but then there was the penalty save against Everton"

"I think though the save against Bent, it was really important for us especially with it being an away game"

"I hope to carry on against West Ham, this time I need a clean sheet to be honest"

Jo asked Ali if he will be staying at the Latics at the end of his loan period, Ali responded: "For me the most important thing is that I have done my job and everyone is happy for me and happy with what I have done.

"I give 100%, everyone says brilliant, that`s what I need to hear, but for the future it is early yet to be thinking about it"

"I love this football club, I love the fans, I`m so happy"

There is a documentary(Around 2 hours) talking about his personal life, his breakthrough into football, and his international and professional football career. If a good sum of the folks here are interested, I'll translate it with subtitles.
