Wigan Athletic - Sky Sports 'Best Of The Weekend'

Wigan Athletic and especially Charles N`Zogbia hit all the right headlines with Sky Sports this weekend.

Following one of the most dramatic games of the season that saw the Latics recover from a two goal half-time deficit to win a relegation do or die encounter 3-2, Sky Sports have piled on the plaudits to Wigan Athletic and star performer Charles N`Zogbia.

The weekly feature Best of the Weekend, saw Charles N`Zogbia named Player of the Weekend, N`Zogbia`s first goal was named Goal of the Weekend and the game itself won the accolade of Game of the Weekend. Take a look below:

Player of the weekend

Charles N'Zogbia

No-one can accuse Wigan's French winger of suffering from insomnia this season and his blistering form continued in a performance that could end up saving his side's campaign. With their backs to the wall, the Latics came out firing in the second half against West Ham and inspired by N'Zogbia they dragged themselves out of the mire to earn a crucial victory. It remains to be seen if he stays at the DW Stadium next term but a brace from N'Zogbia at a crucial time means he is awarded our player of the week.

Game of the weekend

Wigan 3 West Ham 2

Now if someone had said on Saturday evening that a 4-3 thriller at Bloomfield Road between Blackpool and Bolton was not going to be the best tie of the weekend then we all would have been dumbfounded, but anyone who watched the drama unfold at Wigan knows why that encounter takes the prize. Two up at half-time and in a fantastic position, West Ham then pressed the self-destruct button as Roberto Martinez's men scored three to condemn the Hammers to relegation from the Premier League and give themselves hope of survival in the process. The fact that only a win would do for both teams resulted in a gung-ho attitude and a tie resembling a basketball fixture. Superb entertainment for the neutral.

Goal of the weekend

Charles N'Zogbia

As always the top-flight produced a number of fine goals with the likes of Charlie Adam, Darren Bent, Jason Puncheon and Rafael van der Vaart netting with excellent efforts this weekend. But N'Zogbia's first for Wigan was an absolute pearler and a goal that kick-started the monumental comeback. The Latics attacker stepped up to hit a free-kick from the edge of the area and it flew into the top corner of the net, leaving Rob Green with absolutely no chance. Stunning stuff from N'Zogbia to inspire the fans and set up an extraordinary end to the game.

The game also saw the unwanted Gaffe of the Weekend being awarded to West Ham keeper Robert Green for allowing N`Zogbia`s winner to creep under his body just 10 seconds from full time:

Gaffe of the weekend

Robert Green

What an awful year it has been for Robert Green, who has seen his professional career suffer a downward spiral ever since his horrendous error for England at the World Cup. His season has finished on another sour note as, while he made some important saves at Wigan, he let Charles N'Zogbia's low shot slip through his grasp into the bottom corner to condemn West Ham to relegation. Green will no doubt be looking forward to the end of the campaign.
