Wigan Athletic - Wish FM Pump It Up

Wigan Athletic had a great result last Sunday, coming from behind to beat West Ham 3-2 to preserve their Premier League status for at least one more week and give themselves a real fighting chance of escaping the dreaded drop altogether with the right result against Stoke this weekend.

Being at the DW Stadium for the game was a fantastic thrill, not only was the last minute goal from Charlie almost too much for my blood pressure, but the whole game was a sway of emotions, to nick a cliché it was a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions.

But being at the game you miss some of the excitement portrayed by the media. Sky Sports Soccer Saturday show (broadcast on Sunday), was full of high drama with Charlie Nicholas commentating on the Latics game and footage of his extravagantly, breathtaking updates from the DW were a joy to watch, if you haven`t seen it, take a look here.

Charlie Nicholas, Jeff Stelling and co are for a national audience, although exciting and dramatic the thrill of hearing people commentate who are actually connected to the Latics is something else. We all remember Matt McCann`s famous words from back in May 2005, `hold onto your seats, this is it, Wigan Athletic 90 minutes away from the Premiership`, all the emotion as he broadcast the events that saw the Latics beat Reading 3-1 to gain promotion on that glorious day, we thought it could never be topped.

Well, last weekend it came very close to being topped, Graham Lovett and ex-Latics captain Neil Rimmer did the commentary on the game for Latics Player and Wish FM and what a great job they did, it left me extremely pumped up for this weeks do or die game at Stoke and to be honest, I just cant stop playing it, fantastic stuff.

Have a listen to this:
