'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Chelsea and Liverpool Eye James McCarthy

Wigan Athletic midfield youngster James McCarthy is being linked with approaches from both Chelsea and Liverpool, the Premier League giants are casting their envious eyes at one of the most prodigious talents not just in England but in world football.

The Republic of Ireland international is exceptional way beyond his tender years, his tactical awareness is phenomenal and it is difficult to believe he is only 20 years old when watching him play week in week out.

Latics are being reported in the media has wanting £20 million for the former Hamilton Academicals player which some people have baulked at, but being honest £20 million would be a steal at today`s transfer prices.

James McCarthy though will undoubtedly have the last say on what happens in the next couple of years of his career, he chose the Latics over other clubs because he believed that playing under Roberto Martinez and Graeme Jones was the best place for his development, now, if Wigan Athletic can remain a Premier League club, that development might just mean he feels it is the right choice to stay put, play each week and not get lost in massive squads at big clubs, after all he still has many more miles in his tank.

McCarthy`s importance to the team cannot be underestimated, at the end of October he was injured in a league game against Bolton with the Latics sitting just 2 points off 7th position in the table, the 16 Premier League games that followed saw eight defeats and just two wins with the Latics slipping down the table into the bottom three.

McCarthy returned to the starting line-up against Aston Villa at the end of January, a 2-1 home defeat but the young midfielder had a good game and scored the Latics goal, the following thirteen Premier League games all featured McCarthy and saw the Latics suffer just four defeats in those games against Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Sunderland.

James McCarthy is a fantastic player, very talented and also very level headed, £20 million? He`s worth double that.

Twice as consistent as Henderson, A Young & Phil Jones put together but because he is not english those players will easily be worth £23-£30 mil!! If Dave does things right we could get £35 mil for him and he'd be worth it and would easily cut the mustard at Chelsea, Man U or Aresenal never mind liverpool
