Vote For Your Latics Man Of The Match v Stoke

Wigan Athletic produced the goods for the second week in a row and took the three points at the Britannia Stadium to leap frog out of the bottom three and into 16th place in the Premier League, a gutsy performance against Stoke gave the lads a 1-0 victory and set up some wild celebrations at the end of the game.

The game itself was far from a classic, the windy conditions didn`t help, neither did the nerves, but the Latics stayed strong, turned up the tempo in the second half and of course Hugo grabbed the all important winner.

Some solid performances throughout the team, Ali was good and confident in goal, Caldwell and Alcaraz kept Jones, Walters and late in the game, Carew at bay, whilst Maynor Figueroa, after a shaky start with his distribution, we`ll put that down to wind, the wind not the trumpy kind, went on to have a great game, keeping Pennant quiet and then getting forward at the right time to send over the perfect cross for Hugo.

The midfield worked tirelessly, Diame, Watson and McCarthy covered a lot of ground, whilst N`Zogbia came more into the game as it wore on. Sammon struggled early on with the conditions but second half he started to put himself about more and was unlucky with one effort in particular.

Hugo grabbed the headlines with a great header, where did that leap come from? But the man of the match for me was Emmerson Boyce.

A fantastic display from Boycey, kept Etherington quiet all afternoon, a great clearance in the first half from a Kenwyne Jones shot ensured that a clean sheet was preserved, but he had an all round solid performance and typified just what we needed, guts and class rolled into one.

So Boycey for me, but who was your man of the match? To vote simply access the poll on the right side of this page, select your choice and then hit the submit button, it is that easy.
