Latics 3-2 West Ham Gave The Biggest Buzz

The last home game of the season, Wigan Athletic 3-2 West Ham, was the game that gave the biggest buzz to Latics fans, well according to the voters on our latest poll anyway.

A must win game, a draw was no good, a loss and certain relegation would have followed, so the pressure was on, all throughout the previous week the tension had been built, for West Ham it was last chance saloon, for the Latics, well to say it was a critical game would be an understatement.

So with both sides facing a do or die scenario the Latics had one foot in the grave at half-time, despite controlling the play, creating all the chances and being by far the better side it looked like Championship football would be the order of the day as West Ham had somehow managed a 2-0 lead by the break.

The second half saw some of the most exciting and breath-taking football witnessed at the DW Stadium, a super free-kick from Charles N`Zogbia gave the Latics hope, Conor Sammon had the home fans delirious with his equaliser, this set up a crazy last 15 minutes as both sides threw caution to the wind and went all out attack.

The game swung to and thro, Ben Watson hit the post for the Latics and Carlton Cole missed a sitter for West Ham, then with just 20 seconds of the game remaining Charles N`Zogbia cut inside from the right and let fly with his trusty left boot, the net rippled and Latics had grabbed a winner and a lifeline in the dying embers of a quite frenetic an pulsating game.

I`m still buzzing off it.

For the record the voting was:

Best Buzz From A Game?

Latics 3-2 West Ham - 66%

Latics 3-2 Arsenal - 11%

Sheff Utd 1-2 Latics - 10%
