Martinez Stays At The Latics

Martinez Stays At The Latics

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has decided to stay just that and rejected the chance to double his salary at Aston Villa.

Martinez was Villa`s number one choice to replace Gerrard Houllier, who left the Villa Park hot seat due to health reasons, and Latics chairman Dave Whelan gave his Villa counterpart Randy Lerner permission to talk to Martinez once the Spaniard returned from holiday.

Loyalty and principles aren`t words usually used to describe people inside football at the top level, but it would look like Roberto Martinez has an abundance of those qualities in his makeup as he decided to stay loyal to Dave Whelan, the Latics and his adoring fans as he is set to continue the transformation and rebuilding of Wigan Athletic that he started two years ago.

Fantastic commitment from a manger, not many would stay in that situation. I thin the majority of the villa fans will be happy i have to say for some reason. I was a neutral really but you guys should are lucky to have a manager like that, appreciate it!

P.Avfc, relax mate, it was a joke, I am sure you will find a manager that will be a good fit for Villa, are you that angry at being a Villa supporter?

Yeah saw it now, nothing was on newsnow lol, Oh well, perhaps worked out for both parties we will never know, Seems a decent manager with potental but doesn't seem ready for a big club, think he needs another 2-3 seasons at Wigan. So far he has no experience winning anything. I think players at Villa are probably bigger than Martinez which you really don't need. You want a manager to look up to, he has no real history of making transfer dealings at a high level. Do we really know if he could cope with the ego's at Villa such as Ireland, Warnock, Dunne ? I was unsure before being linked to him, but i did warm to the idea and would of gave him a chance. Let's hope Villa bring in Moyes/Rikjaard/Ancelotti/Raniri/Benitez/Hughes, I think going for Martinez was the cheap option.
